Who is Shaded Soul Band?

Renee Prescott, leader of the band, brought these accomplished musicians together back in 1985. Since then they’ve been honored with multiple awards: 2016 Hartford Magazine Reader’s Choice award in the Best Band category, the 2017 WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Award and the 2017 The Knot Best of Weddings Award. These musicians have also shared the stage with names like Gladys Knight, Sister Sledge, The Four Tops and much more. Not only that but they’ve also opened the stage for comedians like Howie Mandel!

Working with Wedding Couples

Prescott says they pride themselves in face-to-face philosophy and work to cater all the couple’s needs. She says they pays such close attention to detail that they even coordinate the musician’s outfits to the wedding theme!  While performing at weddings over the years… Prescott has fine tuned weaving occasional wedding planning aspects into leading a band. She offers up advice like music lineup to make sure the night goes smoothly. They’ll continuously work with you before the big day to ease anxiety and stress. All you have to do is enjoy the music!

Services

Shaded Soul Band continues live music throughout the night and offers DJ services in between. The band is prepared for large crowds or small outdoor weddings. They come prepared with their own equipment. Prescott says they offer emcee services and love interacting with the crowd with their cordless microphones…

Song Requests

If you have a song you love and want it to be a part of your wedding…the band is happy to rehearse and learn it. Prescott says they work hard trying to duplicate music if it has special meaning. She’s even learned songs in Hebrew and Italian to cater to couples. They’ll do everything they can to perform the song for you… but Prescott says they want to duplicate it correctly. Occasionally they’ll use DJ services as a back-up plan. The band asks that couples put in requests three months ahead of time. That way they have enough time to perfect it!

Advice for Song Choices

Prescott says it’s important to pick songs that spark emotion first. These are generally for your first dance as a married couple or a song to dance to with your parents. The kind that really catch your heart strings. Once those are chosen they’ll pay attention to frequent trends. They will then form a set list according to what’s hot that year whether it’s swing…disco or any other genre.

Trends this Year- Something for all Ages to Enjoy!

“I haven’t seen any trends forming yet…but Bruno Mars is really hot on the scene. But that’s bringing back the old funk style with a new twist. So it can incorporate some of the old styles with the new styles. And it really gets people dancing! We get all of the older generations dancing and the younger generations as well.”

What Sets Shaded Soul Band Apart from other Bands

“The energy-level that Shaded Soul Band brings is second to none. We have fun interacting and going out into the crowd…And the music we do is really polished. We do a really good job of making songs sound as close to the original!”
